Where can I buy cell phones in canada that are not available from service providers?

Question by ShaK: Where can I buy cell phones in canada that are not available from service providers?
I live in Canada and want to buy some of the newer cell phone models that the service providers are not yet advertising. I’m particulary interested in both Sony Ericsson and Nokia models that are available in other parts of the world (Europe, Asia) and not in Canada.

I would look at websites like www.expansys.com – they have a very good reputation.

On that note I really urge you to think about this long and hard. Most warrantees provided by the manufacturers are often not carried by the manufacturer themselves in each area but by the cellular service provider. If you outlay a lot of cash and something goes wrong with the phone you may find yourself (most probably in fact) sending it back to wher you bought it from. If you buy “grey” (not sold through official channels) stock at a local or internet store, you may also find yourself in a sticky situation regarding warrantees and backup.

Think hard and perhaps rather be patient for the phones to be released officially in your area unless you are willing to take the chance or are getting a fantastic deal on the phone.

  • Ebay is also a good source for phones not available in North America or Canada. You can use those phones, provided they are GSM and accept SIM cards, as most are not locked to any one provider.

  • The best bet is to buy from Ebay.

I looked at Ebay Canada and found the following useful link:

Make sure to get a phone that is compatible with your service provider (carrier) and make sure that the phone is unlocked if it is not made for your provider.

Only buy from someone with a good Ebay rating – at least 95% is reccomended.

Keep in mind that you may not get a warranty unless you are buying a new product. Ask before you buy!

    Enjoy!
